In ancient times, the Greeks held one of their most important festivals, the Olympic games, in honor of the King of their gods, Zeus. They held it in the shrine of Zeus located near the west edge of Greece in a city called Peloponnesus. As the games became more popular, everyone felt that they needed a new, larger temple that was worthy to the King of the Gods. So between 470 and 460 BC, Libon of Elis began constructing his masterpiece, The Temple of Zeus. The temple was considered one of the best examples of the Doric design because of its style and the quality of the workmanship. The temple was built on a raised rectangular platform. Thirteen large columns supported the roof along the sides and six supported it on each end. A gently peaked roof topped the building. The triangles created by the sloped roofat the ends of the building were filled with sculpture.

A famous sculptor named Phidias was commissioned for making a magnificient statue of Zeus. The statue of Zeus was made of ivory and gold over a wooden frame. It was 22 feet by 40 feet tall. The temple attracted visitors and worshippers from all over the world. However, after the Olympic Games was banned in 391 AD, the temple of Zeus was closed.

Earthquakes, landslides and floods damaged the temple in the fifth century AD. The statue had been earlier transported by wealthy Greeks to a palace in Constantinople (now Istanbul). Unfirtunately a fire of 462AD destroyed it. Today nothing remains at the site of the old temple except rocks and debris, the foundation of the buildings and fallen columns.

The pyramids of Egypt do not require speculations concerning its appearance, size and shape. It is the oldest, yet it is the only surving of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the world. Ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens. After a ruler died, his or her body was carefully treated and wrapped to preserve it as a mummy. According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, the pyramid, where the mummy was placed, provided a place for the monarch to pass into the afterlife.

Most pyramids rose from desert plateaus on the west bank of the Nile, behind which the sun set. The Egyptians believed that a deas monarch’s spirit left the body and travelled through the sky with the sun each day. When the sun set in the west, royal spirits settled into their pyramid tombs to renew themselves. Between 2630 BC and about 1530BC, Ancient Egyptians built about ninety pyramids. Thieves and robbers plundered and destoyed most of the pyramids. The three largest ad best preserved of these were built at Giza. It took 20 years for 100,000 slaves to build it. It required 112 men to lift each separate block.

The great Sphinx is a large human-headed lion that was carved from a mound of a natural rock. It is located in Giza where it guards in front of Khafra’s pyramid.

The most well-known of these pyramids was built for the Pharaoh Khufu. It is known as the ‘Great Pyramid’. It is 756 feet long on each side and 450 feet high. It is made up of 2,300,000 blocks, each weighing two and a half tons. The other two pyramids are the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

A one-day trip needs as much planning as a week-long one. Here is how to make it a hassle-free experience.

Plan according to the nature of the trip.

Are you visiting a relative or a friend? Or attending a wedding? Pack your gifts well in time. Preferably your bags as well.

Is this a trip to get away from it all? Then, leave at the crack of dawn, taking in the sights and sounds of the world that is yet to awaken.

Are you taking your children along? Take in enough to keep them entertained in through the trip.

How are you travelling?

If you are flying, book in advance to get the best deals.

If you will be taking a car, leave early to beat the traffic and also enjoy the early morning chill. When travelling by car pack a picnic lunch. Pull over near a water body or a shadegiving tree and indulge in nature’s midst.

Train journeys can be fun. Keep a stock of things to do and eat. Leave by a trin that reaches your destination after dawn. You don’t want to feel lost in a new town. For the return trip, ensure you reach early. That way you catch up on rest before work.

As  for the bus travel, you could very well catch up on reading and plug into some music!

You can schedule some activity in a day-long trip too.

No matter which place your destination is, be it a hill station or a place by the beach. Check out horse-riding. The world looks different sitting on a horse. Any good parks around? Take a stroll, something you rarely do in your own city.

Life is a game, just that there is no winning or losing.Once the pieces begin to fall in place, the rules determine everything that happens later.life is full of surprises. What will happen in future?—a million dollar question.Theonly way is to follow the rules of the game.Happiness is probably matter of temperament and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life.A happy man would not be searching for happiness like a collar button that has rolled under a shoe rack.He would realize that he is happy in the course of living twenty four crowded hours a day.

I just saw some unbelievably disturbing news about a 13 year old boy who has sired a child. The baby girl was born to his 15 year old girlfriend. The child and the mother are healthy but that is not the issue here. When I saw an interview on a leading news channel of television, the person who interviewed the dad asked him “How will you be a good dad to the baby?” The boy replied that he would love the baby and take care of nappy changes. When the question was “How will you support the child financially?” The reply was “What does financially mean?”

I have no problems or qualms against them. Although the article seemingly explains that the both the teen parents have accepted responsibility and are willing to take care of the child, I am not able to push-aside the fact that they are still too young to bear the burden of a child. I do not mean to set any rule on the age of being parent and I definitely do not deem the responsibility of a child as a burden. But still I feel that the lack of proper knowledge and awareness among the teens have increased the number of single moms within the age of 20 to a staggering 34 percent. With the impending Valentine’s day, I urge every person in love to think rationally and decide if they are ready to take responsibility of a child or decide to act responsibly by using proper contraceptives. If you decide to create a life, you have to make sure that the securing the child’s life and future must be of highest priority. I hope that people will agree to this at least, life is not something to be toyed with.

This is where I found a written article about the 13 year old dad.

Java is an object-oriented, Multi-threaded, platform neutral programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. It is designed to be a small, simple and portable across different platforms as well as operating systems. The popularity of java is due to its unique technology that is designed on the basis of three key elements. They are the usage of applets, powerful programming language constructs and a rich set of significant object classes. The java development environment has two parts; a java compiler and a java interpreter. The compiler generates byte code. (A set of instructions that resembles machine code but are not specific to any processor) instead of machine code and the interpreter executes the java program.

Good manners are not considered important by many today. This is evident in the way we see people snap and answer rudely when we ask a question, slam the door in our face, or take something we did for granted. Yet, we know that in every situation, having good manners makes you a winner.

Having good manners helps us to relate to other people with consideration. When we greet someone or ask “How are you today?” we make them feel a little special by showing that we care. When we say “I’m sorry” or “Would you mind if I do this?” it shows that we are taking care to not hurt their feelings.

How you express yourself show the kind of person you are – rude or considerate, selfish or generous. Treating others the way you would like to be treated is the easiest rule to follow and encourages others to treat you in the same way. Even the most well mannered people in the world can occasionally say the wrong things or make mistakes but being kind, generous and considerate on a daily basis displays true manners of your upbringing.

There is a sudden insatiable craze for IT throughout the world. This budding industry is now projected to have a growth of $55 billion by the year 2008, with a requirement of a resource pool of almost $1.3 million professionals. It has become one of the most preferred and highly paid jobs of today. For many this may sound like a Cinderella tale. But there exists a darker side to this. The people involved in the IT business are usually given the ‘carrot & stick’ treatment. They have to work 24/7 to meet unrealistic project deadlines, untimely board meetings and ever increasing customer demands to survive in this cut-throat competition. For those in the BPO’s the story is even worse. We can never imagine how they work all night and sleep during the day, not to mention unable to socialize with people and interact with family members at the cost of personal health for a good salary. Presently countries like India, China have been used as a back office for the IT software needs amounting to the lesser cost of the projects here. For such a country considering IT as its component in its future economy can cost heavily and the craze for IT would be short-lived once the industry is saturated.
